KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 465,924 users including civil servants have signed up for the MyDigital ID as of July 10, says Gobind Singh Deo.

The Digital Minister said Mimos Bhd will expand the implementation of the MyDigital ID across various demographics in urban and rural areas in phases.

Gobind said the MyDigital ID is being integrated with the Central Database Hub (Padu) and expected to be completed in August 2024.

At the same time, discussions are also ongoing on integrating the MyDigital ID with Touch ‘n Go, Employees Provident Fund (EPF) i-Akaun, Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and the banking sector.

“Prior to this, the MyDigital ID team has had engagements with Bank Negara Malaysia, banking service providers and related stakeholders to step up and expand the use of MyDigital ID in the banking and financial sectors,” he said during Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (July 11).

He was responding to a question by Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong) on the total sign-up for the MyDigital ID and how many applications have been integrated with the MyDigital ID.

To her supplementary question on the security aspect to ensure that there is no data theft, Gobind said the model used for the MyDigital ID does not store the users’ personal data.

“This is the main strategy to ensure security and for us to avoid any data leak or theft of users’ identity and others,” he said.

He said data movement is encrypted with a one-way hash algorithm, which is considered as one of the most reliable cryptographic algorithms around.

Gobind said several applications can be accessed simply by logging into the MyDigital ID.

In a related matter, he said a Bill on data sharing will be tabled in December.

He said the law was important to ensure the safety of data transmission even among government agencies and the use of applications.

“Through that law we will ensure that the security is taken care of,” he said in response to a supplementary question by Dr Halimah Ali (PN-Kapar).

However, he said there are provisions under other laws that safeguard data protection.
