IPOH: Police have reported that a six-month-old baby girl has tragically passed away, suspected to be a victim of abuse.
The unfortunate incident occurred at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, with the baby’s death recorded on Friday (July 14) at approximately 2.50pm, according to Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan.
The case came to attention on July 12, when the hospital reported that the baby had slipped into a coma. Suspecting possible abuse, given the presence of bruises on her body, the hospital immediately raised the alarm, as shared by ACP Yahaya.
Sharing further details on the investigation, ACP Yahaya explained, “We initiated an inquiry under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act, pertaining to the neglect or abuse of a child resulting in physical harm.”
On July 13, the police apprehended a 52-year-old woman, who worked as the baby’s full-time nanny. However, following the unfortunate demise, the case has now been reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
To facilitate a thorough investigation, the woman has been remanded from July 14 to 17. ACP Yahaya highlighted that the post-mortem report indicated blunt trauma to the head as the cause of death.
