BINTULU: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has called on the public and road users to report instances of overloaded lorries along Jalan Simpang Bakun-Empangan Bakun (FT803) using the MYJalan app. He urged individuals to record any offenses by capturing photos and submitting them through the app to facilitate immediate action. This announcement was made in a Facebook post on Saturday (Sept 9).
Nanta Linggi personally inspected the condition of the road on the same day, which was reportedly damaged by overloaded lorries that frequently traverse the route. He expressed concern over the fact that some drivers were brazenly disobeying the law and even cutting the gantries that were installed to prevent them from using the road.
The Works Ministry has approved an allocation of RM7.5 million to repair and resurface the severely damaged road resulting from weak pavement structure. The funding is specifically aimed at urgently addressing the critically damaged sections of the road and installing gantries and signage to specify weight limits.
Nanta Linggi also revealed that the Works Ministry plans to widen a stretch of the road to incorporate overtaking points, pending the budget for 2024. He emphasized the need for RM30 million to upgrade the road and assured the public that the Ministry is committed to securing the necessary funding to enhance the wellbeing and safety of road users.
The MyJalan mobile app, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on August 30, is an initiative by the Works Ministry that offers road users an additional platform to report complaints related to road damage. Its main goal is to find long-term solutions to address road damage and mitigate issues caused by overloaded vehicles. – Bernama
