Fahmi Fadzil has stated that there should be no differences in the National Day celebrations at the Federal and state levels as it is a national event. His comments come in response to Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari’s statement that the four states under the PN administration may use a different National Day logo and theme for state-level celebrations. Fahmi believes that such differences would create an atmosphere of disunity and urges for the matter to be addressed to maintain unity after the completion of the state elections.
According to Ahmad Fadhli, Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu could adopt the alternative logo and theme launched by the PN Youth, “Teguh Muafakat Malaysia Sejahtera (Strong Consensus for a Prosperous Malaysia)”. Meanwhile, Fahmi had previously announced “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan (Determination in Unity, Fulfilling Hope)” as the theme of the 2023 National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
Fahmi also highlights the importance of unity and putting aside political agendas in order to raise the Malaysian flag and celebrate the National Day. He encourages Malaysians not only to wave the physical Jalur Gemilang but also to change their online avatars and display pictures that reflect the spirit of the National Day celebration.
Furthermore, Fahmi emphasizes the role of the media in enlivening the National Day spirit. The highlight of the National Day 2023 celebration will take place in Putrajaya on August 31, with a target of about 100,000 visitors.
