KUALA LUMPUR: Members of the public planning to attend the National Day 2024 celebration at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31 are advised to come early and use public transportation, as several main roads will be closed on that day.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the road closures will start as early as 4am, with some main roads already scheduled to close from Aug 30.

“It is essential to arrive early. For the core island, which includes four main bridges in Putrajaya, closures will start on Aug 30, while other roads will be closed at 4am (Aug 31).

“If you come early, insya-Allah, you will arrive safely and be able to find a comfortable seating area,” he said when appearing as a guest on RTM1’s Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme on Friday (Aug 23).

He also said the organiser will provide 80 shuttle buses operating from 4am to 2pm on Aug 31 to facilitate public movement to the venue and reduce traffic congestion.

In addition, there will be designated pick-up zones and parking spaces for those driving their own vehicles.

“For the first time, the organisers are introducing six water taxis and three cruises to enhance convenience for visitors.

“The public is advised not to park their vehicles indiscriminately, as this could disrupt overall traffic flow. Please stay updated with the latest announcements in case of any changes,” he added.

Comm Rusdi also said that 1,988 police officers will be deployed to ensure safety and manage traffic during the National Day 2024 celebration, which is scheduled to take place from 8am to 10am. – Bernama
