The Netherlands will provide Ukraine with around a thousand portable chargers for remote demining, according to Dutch Defence Minister Kajsa Ollongren. Ollongren made this announcement during her visit to Kyiv. This decision comes as Russian-defended minefields are slowing down Ukraine’s counteroffensive to recapture territory taken by Russia since its invasion in February 2022. Ollongren’s statement was quoted on the Ukrainian defence ministry website following her meeting with Ukrainian minister Oleksiy Reznikov on Tuesday. She acknowledged Ukraine’s struggle with heavily mined areas and stated that the chargers would be able to create passageways through engineered barriers.
On the same day, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed that Germany and other partners could collaborate to help Ukraine navigate a vast land mine belt.
