Water tariffs in Johor are set to increase for domestic users starting February 1, 2024, as announced by the government. Ranhill SAJ, the water operator in Johor, will be responsible for implementing these adjustments.
Muhamad Faizal Aliar, the CEO of Ranhill SAJ, stated that the changes in water tariffs will result in varying monthly bills for users, based on their water consumption. He highlighted that the last review of water tariffs took place almost nine years ago, in 2015.
Under the new rate structure, the price per cubic meter for domestic usage (individual meters) ranging from zero to 20 cubic meters will increase from 80 sen to RM1.05. For usage between 20 to 35 cubic meters, the price will go up from RM2 to RM2.35 per cubic meter. Water consumption exceeding 35 cubic meters will be charged at RM3.15 per cubic meter, up from the previous RM3. The minimum rate for each domestic category (individual meter) will also increase from RM7 to RM10.50.
For the domestic category (bulk meter), the flat rate will change from RM1.60 to RM2.55, with the minimum rate increasing from RM16 to RM25.50. Muhamad Faizal emphasized that these adjustments are essential for the continued maintenance and improvement of the water supply system in Johor, including the replacement of old pipes and upgrades to the infrastructure.
He also highlighted the potential benefits of the water tariff adjustment, including the expansion of the 25 cubic meters water rebate to e-Kasih aid recipients, improved service quality, and the ability to offset rising operating costs. This, he assured, indicates that the value generated from the adjustment will ultimately be returned to consumers in the state. – Bernama
