Max Domi scored the deciding goal in a five-round shootout as the Toronto Maple Leafs overcame a three-goal lead to beat the Calgary Flames 5-4 on Friday.
William Nylander scored twice and had an assist for Toronto, extending his points streak to 14 games — a team record for a season’s start.
Calle Jarnkrok and John Tavares also scored for the Maple Leafs, who had lost five of their previous six games. Toronto goalie Joseph Woll made 24 saves.
For the Flames, Connor Zary, Nikita Zadorov, A.J, Greer and Martin Pospisil scored, and Dan Vladar stopped 32 shots. The Flames had won their two previous games after losing six straight.
In other NHL action, the Vegas Golden Knights beat the San Jose Sharks 5-0, with Alec Martinez scoring two goals and Adin Hill stopping 20 shots for a shutout. Alex Pietrangelo, William Karlsson, and Brett Howden also scored for Vegas while Kaapo Kahkonen finished with 34 saves for San Jose.
The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-3, with Owen Tippett scoring twice and Travis Sanheim adding a goal and two assists. Cam Atkinson and Sean Couturier also scored for the Flyers, and Philadelphia goalie Sam Ersson made 35 saves. Rookie Leo Carlsson scored his first career hat trick for the Ducks.
The Florida Panthers topped the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2, with rookie defenseman Uvis Balinskis scoring his first NHL goal. Matthew Tkachuk, Carter Verhaeghe, and Aleksander Barkov also scored for the Panthers, who haven’t met the Hurricanes since sweeping them in last season’s Eastern Conference finals.
In a close game, the Buffalo Sabres beat the Minnesota Wild 3-2, with rookie Devon Levi making 33 saves and Jeff Skinner scoring the deciding goal and assisting on the third-period score. JJ Peterka also contributed a goal and an assist for the Sabres.
Finally, the Washington Capitals beat the New Jersey Devils 4-2, with Evgeny Kuznetsov scoring two goals. Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Beck Malenstyn also scored for the Capitals, while Timo Meier and Dawson Mercer scored for the Devils.
