JOHOR BARU: There are no signs of chemical pollution around the SiLC industrial park area where four factories caught fire earlier, says Ling Tian Soon.
The Johor health and environment committee chairman said officers from the Environment Department (DOE) conducted tests around the area and found no trace of pollution.
“Since industrial materials were stored at these factories, many have expressed concerns about the possibility of air pollution.
“Tests conducted at the site and nearby areas, including Taman Bukit Indah, about 2km from the scene, did not show any signs of chemical pollution in the air,” he said in a statement.
He added that officers would continue to monitor the site and its surrounding areas to ensure that the water and air quality remain safe.
“The fire was brought under control by around 3.15pm.
“A team from the Fire and Rescue Department remains on site to ensure no fires are left smouldering,” he said on Thursday (Oct 10).
He also reminded the public to stop spreading rumours that could cause unnecessary panic.
“Always seek accurate and verified information from authorities,” he said.
It was earlier reported that three foreigners are in critical condition after a major fire hit four warehouses at the SiLC industrial park here.
