PONTIAN: According to Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, there is no need for Umno to convince any Opposition MPs to voice their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He stated that the unity government already has strong and stable support. He also clarified that the Umno leadership has never persuaded anyone to support Anwar, and if any Opposition MPs choose to do so, it is their own decision.

Ahmad, who is a member of the Umno supreme council and also the Deputy Finance Minister, made these remarks during a media conference held after officiating the Takaful Masuk Kampung programme in Pontian on Saturday (Nov 4). He emphasized that the Prime Minister has never instructed him or anyone else in the government to pressure Opposition MPs to support them. Ahmad added that the government is already stable and strong, so there is no need to seek the support of anyone outside of their existing coalition.

This statement from Ahmad came in response to a statement made by Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin on Friday (Nov 3). Hamzah had stated that Perikatan was collecting evidence regarding alleged acts of intimidation against Opposition MPs to get them to support the unity government. It is unclear whether Ahmad’s comments were directly addressing Hamzah’s statement or if they were made independently.

It is worth noting that an Umno leader expressing that there is no need to persuade Opposition MPs to support the government could indicate a level of confidence in the government’s stability and ability to maintain a majority without external support. However, it is also important to consider that these statements are made in a political context and could serve as a means to project strength and unity within the ruling coalition.

It remains to be seen how these statements will play out in the ongoing political landscape, particularly in relation to the unity government and the support it has from Opposition MPs. The dynamic nature of Malaysian politics makes it important to closely monitor any developments or changes in alliances and support within the government and the opposition.

As of now, the situation seems to be that the Umno leadership does not believe it is necessary to actively seek and convince Opposition MPs to support the unity government led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The government claims to have strong and stable support, and their focus seems to be on governing effectively and maintaining the stability of the coalition.

It is unclear whether the allegations of intimidation made by Hamzah Zainudin will lead to any concrete actions or investigations. However, these allegations do indicate the presence of political tensions and maneuvering within the Malaysian political landscape.

Overall, this news article highlights the confidence expressed by a Umno leader in the stability and strength of the unity government, as well as the ongoing political dynamics and allegations of intimidation within the Malaysian political context.
