KOTA KINABALU: Four crocodiles have been captured so far from a river along Kampung Marudu Darat in Sabah’s northern Kota Marudu district, where a man has been missing since Wednesday (Sept 11).

Sabah Wildlife Department director Roland Oliver Niun said on Sunday (Sept 15) that three of the animals were baited and hooked while the fourth was shot.

The crocodiles, measuring between 1.5m and 3.6m (about 6ft to 12ft), had been lurking in the river where the victim was reportedly attacked while bathing.

However, Niun said none of the crocodiles has turned out to be the suspected predator in the attack.

“So far, negative,” he said when asked if the department had determined if any of the captured crocodiles was the culprit.

As of Sunday, Kota Marudu fire station chief Mohd Hasbi Hajat said they have yet to locate 35-year-old Razis Amat.

He was swimming with a friend when the attack occurred.

His friend managed to escape and alerted the authorities.

“We are continuing our surface search for the victim,” Hasbi said.
