According to state media, North Korea conducted tests of its cruise missiles and new land-to-air missiles off its west coast on Feb. 2 in an effort to improve its defense capabilities. These missile launches were the fourth in just over a week, making it a significant escalation of its weapons testing activities.

The KCNA stated that these tests are part of the routine activities of the General Directorate and the Agency for Defense Development to advance the technology of new weapon systems in terms of their function, performance, and operation, and are unrelated to the regional situation.

Typically, the KCNA provides commentary on their missile tests about a day after the launch occurs. This announcement comes amidst increased tensions in the region due to North Korea’s continued missile testing.

North Korea’s testing of cruise missiles and land-to-air missiles is aimed at enhancing its defense capabilities, as reported by the state media. With four launches in just over a week, this marks a significant increase in the frequency of missile testing by Pyongyang.

The KCNA’s statement emphasized that these tests are unrelated to the regional situation, suggesting that North Korea is focused on improving its defense capabilities without considering the impact on the overall regional security environment.

These missile tests were reported by state media as part of the efforts to advance the technology of new weapon systems, including their function, performance, and operation. The KCNA’s comments on the tests usually come a day after the launch takes place, providing official confirmation of the activities conducted by North Korea.
