According to state media KCNA, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw a military demonstration involving tank units on Wednesday, as reported on Thursday by Reuters.
Kim was accompanied by senior officials, including Defence Minister Kang Sun Nam, at the event described by KCNA as a “training match” between tank units.
The purpose of the military event was to thoroughly assess the actual combat capabilities of tank crews and familiarize them with different tactical missions, as per the KCNA report.
“Swiftly navigating various challenging combat scenarios, heavy tanks swiftly hit targets with powerful strikes and penetrated strong defense lines with high maneuverability,” the report highlighted.
Kim stressed the importance of conducting intensive exercises that simulate real war scenarios and training matches to enhance combat capability, enabling them to effectively carry out any mission promptly and accurately in any situation.
Kim’s attendance at the demonstration occurred shortly after he supervised an artillery firing drill by the Korean People’s Army, the country’s military force, the previous week.
This drill involved units located near the border that have the capability to reach “the enemy’s capital,” as specified by KCNA, in reference to the South Korean capital Seoul, which is home to nearly 10 million people.
