According to KCNA, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised the inspection test of a new surface-to-sea missile on Wednesday. This news was reported on Thursday.
Kim’s supervision of the missile test comes after North Korea launched multiple cruise missiles off its east coast. South Korea’s military confirmed the missile launches, which are part of a series of tests conducted by North Korea in the weeks leading up to the April general election in South Korea.
State media KCNA reported that Kim accused South Korea of violating North Korea’s sovereignty by enforcing the “Northern Limit Line” (NLL), which is the maritime demarcation line between the two Koreas.
Following the missile test, Kim ordered the strengthening of military readiness in the waters north of Yeonpyeong Island, located to the west of the Korean peninsula, in the area of the NLL. According to KCNA, Kim stated that any invasion of the maritime border would be considered a violation of North Korea’s sovereignty and an act of force.
The newly tested missile, named Badasuri-6 or “sea eagle-6” in Korean, successfully flew over the sea and hit its intended target, as reported by KCNA.
Additionally, KCNA stated that Kim also inspected a “key” munitions factory.
