PETALING JAYA: There will be no change in leadership at the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) as Tan Sri Norza Zakaria has decided to remain as president, reversing his earlier decision to step down.
Norza had previously planned to resign from his position, but after discussions with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and other BAM council members, he has had a change of heart.
Speaking at a press conference after a BAM council meeting at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Dec 16, Norza expressed gratitude to Yeoh for her support in persuading him to stay on as BAM president.
He cited the encouragement and discussions with the Sports Minister and other council members as reasons for his decision to remain in his role, stating that the continuity of leadership is essential to ensure uninterrupted preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics for BAM’s shuttlers.
His commitment to the development of the sport prompted Norza’s reversal in his resignation decision.
