Authorities from the National Registration Department (NRD) carried out a pre-planned operation in Pulau Indah, Port Klang, with the goal of identifying foreigners who have counterfeited and misused identity cards.
The operation, which was conducted in collaboration with the Putrajaya Immigration Department, lasted until 5am and covered 12 houses in seven locations. Members of the media were present during the inspection.
In a statement released on Thursday, the NRD stated that the operation was executed based on intelligence, and resulted in the arrest of three individuals for possessing counterfeit identity cards and using them for employment in the country.
“All three individuals were taken to the NRD in Putrajaya for further investigation. They did not possess proper identification documents, but were found to be in possession of Persatuan Bajau cards,” the statement read.
The department revealed that all three individuals worked as welders, with one being Filipino and the other claiming to be from Sabah.
“The operation, which involved 60 NRD and 23 JIM personnel, also yielded numerous copies of Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) cards and identity cards,” the statement added.
The NRD also issued a reminder to employers, urging them to verify the validity of identity documents before hiring workers. – Bernama
