A 47-year-old man with a disability (OKU) card has pleaded not guilty to raping his underage daughter in Seremban, Malaysia. The man entered his plea after the charge was read to him in court on Thursday (Feb 1) before Sessions judge Datin Surita Budin.
He is accused of committing the offense against his 16-year-old daughter on Nov 12 at a house in Kota, Rembau. Under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, he faces a possible jail term of eight to 30 years and a minimum of 10 lashes upon conviction.
DPP Goh Hsiao Tung informed the court that the prosecution had not yet obtained relevant reports and would not be offering bail, as the suspect faced another charge relating to the same victim. The victim reportedly faced further assault from the accused after the alleged rape, and the prosecution objected to bail, fearing the suspect may harass the victim, who is in the care of the Welfare Department.
Representing himself, the suspect claimed he was intoxicated on the day of the alleged incident and requested bail to care for his father and three children, and to be able to work to provide for them. He additionally mentioned that he has lost one eye in an accident.
However, Judge Surita denied bail and instructed the suspect to appoint a lawyer. The next mention was fixed for March 6.
The suspect was arrested on Jan 24 after a video showing a man physically abusing a young girl went viral. The victim reportedly required 12 stitches for her injuries and later revealed to a doctor that her father had raped her in November.
The girl shared that her parents divorced when she was four, and she had been living with her grandmother in Rantau. In June 2022, she moved in with her father and his 44-year-old girlfriend and continued her secondary education in Tampin.
