PARIS, July 27 (Xinhua) — Chinese star sprinter Ge Manqi said that she feels positive ahead of the Paris Olympic Games, with her women’s 100m preliminary round to come on August 2.

In a training camp based in Troyes, east of Paris, Ge underwent recovery and strength training in an indoor gym. The 26-year-old said that she had been trying to increase the intensity of her regimen.

“I dealt with injuries and energy issues this year. I keep adjusting myself. Now, I feel better,” said Ge, the women’s 100m champion in last year’s Asian Games.

Ge made breakthroughs at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, becoming the first Chinese athlete to make it into the women’s 100m semifinals, before finishing sixth in the 4x100m relay.

Due to China’s absence from the women’s 4x100m relay in Paris, the 100m is Ge’s only event this time.

“I feel relaxed now. Everyone will be proud of participating in the Paris Olympic Games. I had a good performance in Tokyo. Now, I still hope to have the same mentality to showcase China’s speed,” she noted.
