PARIS, July 28 (Xinhua) — China’s Zhang Yufei said on Sunday that she was satisfied with her bronze medal in the women’s 100m butterfly at the Paris Olympics, her second podium finish in the event.
The 26-year-old clocked 56.21 seconds to finish behind the United States’ Torri Huske (55.59) and Gretchen Walsh (55.63) at Paris La Defense Arena.
“The first half I did very good,” Zhang said. “I didn’t expect the result. I just did my best and focused on what I had practiced.”
Asked how she felt about the performances of Huske and Walsh, Zhang replied: “These are my two old friends. We’ve raced each other so many times.”
It was the sixth Olympic medal for Zhang, who had claimed silver in the same event at the Tokyo Games.
Zhang left open the possibility of continuing her career at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
“I don’t feel I’m so old. I’m only 26. Maybe in two or three years I will feel old. Now I still feel I have responsibility to continue to swim, to win more medals.”
