PETALING JAYA: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has issued a disclaimer on viral fake police recruitment ads being shared on various social media platforms.

In a post on Facebook on July 2, PDRM said the fake recruitment ads have been disseminated by irresponsible parties.

It also urged members of the public to ignore such postings and to stop sharing them.

PDRM referred to a posting made by the Recruitment Unit which highlighted six videos on TikTok. It said that the videos are featuring fake police recruitment offers.

Based on checks, some of these videos are still up on TikTok as of time of writing with one logging over 96,900 views.

The account owner on these videos will ask users to click on a link on the bio section to get more information about the recruitment ad.

These links will lead users to job offer websites bearing various government department logos.

One website claims to offer users a chance to work with the Malaysian government with salaries of up to RM12,000.

Clicking on the ‘apply now’ option will lead users to a page where they are asked to fill in their full name and Telegram contact number as part of a registration process.

PDRM Recruitment Unit said it will only post police recruitment ads on official social media channels namely on Facebook, Instagram and Telegram under the name ‘Unit Pengambilan Polis Diraja Malaysia’.

Apart from PDRM, the TikTok accounts also feature job recruitment offers from other organisations including airlines and courier services in Malaysia.
