    'Oppenheimer' director Christopher Nolan to be given knighthood

    In London, British-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan, known for his recent Oscar win for the historical drama “Oppenheimer”, is set to receive a knighthood from Britain in recognition of his contributions to the film industry. His wife and film producer Emma Thomas will also be honoured with a damehood, announced by the British government on Thursday as part of a list of honours recommended by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Other recipients included Conservative politicians and tech industry leaders.

    “Oppenheimer”, a critically acclaimed biopic about the race to develop the first atomic bomb, secured seven Academy Awards earlier this month, including the coveted best picture award and Nolan’s first best director Oscar. Nolan, known for his work on films like “Interstellar,” “Inception”, “Dunkirk”, and the Batman trilogy, wrote the screenplay for “Oppenheimer” and produced the film with Thomas.

    Among the distinguished individuals receiving a knighthood is Demis Hassabis, the CEO of Google’s DeepMind. Honours in the field of artificial intelligence also went to Matthew Clifford, an AI adviser to the British government, and entrepreneur Ian Hogarth, chair of the AI Safety Institute, both of whom were awarded CBEs (Commander of the Order of the British Empire.)

    Billionaire businessman and Conservative Party donor Mohamed Mansour was also granted a knighthood for his contributions to business, charity, and political service. Sunak extended honours to his Conservative colleagues as well, with knighthoods for Philip Davies and Mark Spencer and damehoods for Tracey Crouch and Harriett Baldwin.

    Additionally, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos was recognised with an honorary CBE for his services to the creative industries. The diverse list of honourees showcases the range of talent and accomplishments within the UK and beyond.
