More than 1,600 individuals have been apprehended for engaging in illegal gambling within the initial nine months of this year, according to Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri. From January to September, a total of 1,338 raids were conducted, resulting in the confiscation of 397 devices such as computers, mobile phones, and printers, as well as an overall sum of RM246,793 in cash. Comm Mohd Yusri revealed in a statement on Monday (Oct 2) that out of those detained, 839 individuals have been formally charged in court.
Comm Mohd Yusri expressed his gratitude to the local councils, Tenaga Nasional, and the Communication and Multimedia Commission for their assistance and cooperation in ensuring the success of the operation against gaming syndicates. The authorities were able to cut off the electricity supply to 90 premises, cancel 53 business licenses, and impose restrictions on 55 online websites. Additionally, Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation has initiated two investigation papers against members of the syndicate.
