KUALA LUMPUR: More than 20 centres will be opened for the rehabilitation of all Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) members.

The rehabilitation programme, which is strictly on a voluntary basis, is conducted by the National Security Council (NSC) in collaboration with Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and other relevant agencies such as the police and the Welfare Department.

NSC deputy director-general Comm Datuk Baharuddin Ahmad said based on the council’s record, there are a total of 10,500 GISB members nationwide.

“The programme is conducted for three months or 90 days, at several selected government training centres. The participants will be provided lodging as well as food and drinks throughout the programme.

“All GISB members nationwide are invited to join the programme to undergo a comprehensive skills training and rehabilitation in terms of ‘akidah’, syariah, education, health and patriotism.

“Parents and children will not be separated (during the programme) and we will work hard to provide lodging for them together,” he told a press conference on Monday (Oct 14).

Baharuddin said GISB members need full guidance and support from the government and society to ensure that they are on the right akidah path and able to carry on with their lives.

“I urge all members to sign up for the programme to ensure they could lead better lives.

“For the early stages, NSC expects thousands of GISB members to sign up for the programme,” he said.

Comm Baharuddin said registration for the programme will be opened from Oct 14 until Nov 14.

“(Once they have registered) all participants will be contacted for the purpose of coordinating logistics.

“Registration can be done online via the or scan a QR code (on the NSC website).

“Those interested can also contact Jakim at 03-88707294/7295/7296 or the NSC national operations management centre at 03-88880733.

“Registration can also be made at the respective state religious department or district police headquarters,” he said.

Participants of the programme will be evaluated by the director of each rehabilitation centre in terms of their level of rehabilitation before completing the programme, he added.

“For the start of the programme, we will focus on members who are in the country but those overseas can also register.

“For those overseas, we will think of further action that can be taken.

“We understand GISB has business networks in 19 countries, including Australia and the United States,” he said.

He also urged GISB members to lodge a police report should they be threatened for joining the programme.
