    PUTRAJAYA: The 13th Epidemiological Week (ME13), which spanned from March 24 to March 30, saw a decrease in reported cases of dengue fever, with a total of 2,579 cases compared to the previous week’s 3,041 cases. Health director-general, Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, also noted three deaths due to dengue fever complications during this period.

    Dr. Radzi revealed that the cumulative reported cases of dengue fever up to ME13 reached 44,144 cases, significantly higher than the 28,587 cases reported during the same period in 2023. There were also 31 deaths attributed to dengue fever complications, compared to 18 deaths reported last year.

    During ME13, there were 135 reported hotspot localities, with Selangor accounting for 114 of them, while Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya had 10, Penang had five, Negeri Sembilan had four, and Kedah had two, as stated by Dr. Radzi on Saturday.

    No cases of chikungunya were identified during surveillance in ME13, maintaining the cumulative total at 13 cases with no reported outbreaks, according to Dr. Radzi. As for zika, screening of 621 blood samples and one urine sample all returned negative results.
