JOHOR BARU: The Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has received over 500 cases involving more than RM19mil worth of seized goods this year, says its director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo.

She said the cases were reported through public complaints and the 40,000 checks conducted statewide since January.

“Between Jan 1 and July 14, we conducted a total of 41,644 checks and received 507 cases involving various offences.

“The value of goods seized in these cases stands at RM19.31mil as of July 14,” she said during a press conference after attending the Jualan Rahmah event at Hospital Sultanah Aminah here.

The Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has issued compounds worth RM108,000, and courts have issued fines totalling RM382,220.

Lilis noted that the figure includes complaints about suspected profiteering by companies following the diesel subsidy rationalisation.

“We have received four such complaints so far and are investigating the matter,” she said, adding that the cases involve transportation and towing companies.
