KUALA LUMPUR: The number of losses from commercial crime cases has reached about RM1bil in the first six months of the year, says Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf.
The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director said between Jan 1 and June 16, a total of 14,846 commercial crime cases were recorded.
“It has resulted in RM1.07bil in losses during that period.
“There are an average of 88 cases daily,” he said when contacted on Saturday (June 22).
Comm Ramli said the number of cases increased slightly compared to the corresponding period last year, which recorded 14,798 cases.
“However, the amount of losses has spiked some 27% as the cases resulted in RM843,450,347 in losses last year,” he said.
The CCID is confident of dealing with the huge number of cases as their prosecution rate has increased, he said.
“A total of 7,018 investigation papers led to successful prosecutions this year compared to the same period last year, where 6,219 prosecutions were recorded,” he said.
Comm Ramli reminded the public to be more wary and aware of modus operandi used by criminals in commercial crime cases such as scams.
“Help us spread commercial crime prevention messages.
“Let us work together to create a safer environment, free from commercial crimes,” he said.
