The process of registration and filling out information for the Central Database Hub (Padu) system at the Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) can be improved to enhance the overall service. Siti Zakiah Muhamad Isa, the director of the Federal Territory Statistics Department, mentioned that one improvement could be the provision of Chinese and Tamil interpreters to address the language barrier experienced by some individuals. This language barrier has caused delays and congestion at some PEDi centers.

To alleviate the congestion, Siti Zakiah suggested increased cooperation between PEDi centers in the same area and the hiring of additional staff to help facilitate the registration process. She made these remarks during a press conference at the People’s Housing Project (PPR) PEDi in Salak Selatan on January 4.

Following the launch of Padu on January 2, 2024, citizens aged 18 and above have been crowding PEDi centers nationwide to verify or update their household data. In Kedah, Sharliza Saary, the assistant director of the State Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), observed a positive response from the public at the Bawah Gunung PEDi in Baling.

Rozina Ahmat, a 51-year-old single mother of nine in Negri Sembilan, had a positive experience at the Senawang 1 PEDi. She was assisted by the statistics officer there and commended the officers for their excellent service, which enabled her to easily fill out the required details.

The continuous publicity about Padu through various media platforms has contributed to the public’s confidence in the registration process, according to Aimi Nadia Azmi, the manager of Telaga Daing PEDi in Terengganu. Afiq Danish Roslan, a hotel worker in Johor, suggested setting up Padu registration counters in public places to encourage more people to register.

Given the positive and encouraging responses from the public at various PEDi centers, there is potential for further improvement in the services offered. The availability of interpreters and increased cooperation between PEDi centers in the same area can help address the language barrier and congestion issues. These improvements, along with continuous promotion and availability of registration counters in public places, can contribute to a smoother and more efficient registration process for Padu.
