PETALING JAYA: The Crown Prince of Pahang has called on the police to immediately conduct a fair and transparent probe into allegations that a member of the state’s royal family was involved in an attack on a construction worker in Kuantan.

In a statement, Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah said he treated such allegations, which have gone viral on social media, seriously.

“I urge the police to conduct a full investigation immediately, transparently and fairly, and without compromise so that justice can be upheld.

“If there is any evidence of wrongdoing, it needs to be brought to court for prosecution and trial,” he said.

Tengku Hassanal was responding to a report on a news portal, which quoted construction worker Alias Awang, 44, as accusing a Pahang royal of being involved in the attack on June 6, during which he was stabbed and shot at.

The Crown Prince also said that everyone is equal before the law and affirmed his commitment to not protecting anyone, including members of the royal family, who are involved in criminal or illegal activities.

Meanwhile, Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the investigation papers into the incident are being completed and will be sent to the public prosecutor soon.

He said several people had previously been arrested and released on police bail, and witnesses had also been summoned to assist in the probe.

According to Bernama, Comm Yahaya said the investigation papers were previously sent back by the deputy public prosecutor’s office for further investigations.
