Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi expressed disappointment that Datuk Seri Najib Razak did not receive a full pardon and commented that he failed while others succeeded. He described Najib as the “wow” factor that could revitalize Umno in a Facebook post on Friday (Feb 2).
Puad also expressed concern that the current “weapons” for Umno to reclaim power are not effective, and urged Najib to re-engage on economic issues and the welfare of the people.
Puad emphasized that although Najib may be physically absent, his influence and ideas are still present, and his loyal supporters will stand by him.
The Pardons Board announced a reduction in Najib’s prison sentence from 12 to 6 years, with a release date set for Aug 23, 2028. Additionally, his fine was reduced from RM210mil to RM50mil.
However, failure to pay the fine would result in an additional year of imprisonment, extending the release date to Aug 23, 2029, according to the Pardons Board secretariat.
