GEORGE TOWN: Several roads in the Bayan Baru area are flooded following a heavy downpour in the wee hours of Tuesday (Sept 2) morning.

The roads including Jalan Mayang Pasir 1 and the Jalan Mahsuri area were seen to have more than half a metre of water, making it difficult for motorcyclists to ride through.

Some were getting off their bikes to push and wade through the water while cars were seen stuck in a jam as they tried to slow down in the area on Tuesday morning.

The heavy downpour which started in the wee hours on Tuesday caused jams around the island.

As of 9.31am, it is still raining in some parts of the island.

A check at the dams has shown a slight increase in water levels with the water level at the Air Itam and Teluk Bahang dams now at 31.2% and 25.8%, respectively.

The water levels at the Air Itam and Teluk Bahang dams were only 27.6% and 25.2%, respectively, on Aug 20.

Over the week, it has rained in several parts of the island usually in the wee hours of the morning.
