GEORGE TOWN: A downpour and strong winds that hit Penang on Saturday (Sept 7) afternoon caused flash floods in several areas, including Bayan Baru, Farlim and Kepala Batas.
The strong wind also uprooted trees in Balik Pulau and Pulau Burung at south Seberang Perai.
Among the affected areas in Bayan Baru were Jalan Mahsuri, Jalan Mayang Pasir and areas near Sunshine Square Mall.
This is the second time flash floods occured in Bayan Baru following a downpour.
Several roads in the Bayan Baru area were flooded after a downpour in the wee hours of Tuesday (Sept 2) morning.
Saturday’s downpour, which started at about 2pm, also caused flash floods in Farlim.
The heavy rains also led to congestion as the roads were crowded with people out to enjoy the weekend.
In Kepala Batas, several areas in Bertam, Jalan Paya Keladi and Kubang Menerong were also submerged.
Several road were also closed to ensure no vehicles crossed until the waters subsided.
Currently, the rain has subsided in several areas, but the forecast still indicates that it will rain again.
