PETALING JAYA: PAS has condemned the “cowardly” act that has resulted in the death of the Hamas leader and political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran, says Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (pic).
Its secretary-general said that the violent incident is closely related to the tension in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing genocide in Gaza perpetrated by Israel and Ismail Haniyeh’s role as a key leader in the resistance against it.
“We extend our condolences to the families and express our full support and solidarity with the Palestinians and Muslims in the region involved in the legitimate struggle against the invasion and occupation by Israel and its allies,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 31).
He also called on all Muslims to perform solat jenazah ghaib (funeral prayers in the absence of the dead) and solat hajat (special prayer ceremony) on Saturday (Aug 3) in conjunction with the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Haniyeh, who is also the former prime minister of Palestine, was assassinated hours after he attended the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s president Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday (July 30).
