A new software program has been developed to eliminate the sound of fellow gamers crunching on chips, providing relief for those who find it annoying and distracting. Created by the popular Doritos potato chip brand, the program utilizes artificial intelligence to cancel out the noise of potato chip munching, allowing gamers to continue snacking without disturbing others.
Referred to as Doritos Silent, this “crunch cancellation” software is currently only compatible with PCs running Windows 10 or 11. It is the result of a partnership between Doritos, Smooth Technology, and acoustics experts, who spent six months developing the program and analyzing over 5,000 different crunching sounds to create algorithms capable of suppressing chewing noises.
According to a study conducted by Frito-Lay among 2,000 British gamers in October 2023, almost half of the participants (46%) do not enjoy hearing other gamers eat. The noise of eating is distracting and can negatively impact performance in gaming. Doritos Silent aims to address this issue and improve the overall gaming experience.
