KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bangsa Malaysia’s (PBM) intention to contest in the upcoming Sabah polls could affect the understanding forged between Sabah and Sarawak parties, says Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah vice-president Datuk Masiung Banah.

“I think that PBM’s intention is more to damage the relationship and understanding between the two states working together under the ‘Borneo Block’,” he said on Monday (July 8).

On June 29, PBM president Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien, who opened the party’s office in Penampang, said the party intended to contest some seats in the Sabah elections.

He said they were looking at native Kazadandusun and Murut seats in Penampang, Kota Marudu, Ranau, Kota Belud, Tuaran, Putatan and Pensiangan.

However, Masiung, who is also Kuamut assemblyman, said that PBM was not a threat to the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state government.

He said that political parties in Sabah and Sarawak from both the government and the Opposition have an understanding that they will not field candidates in each other’s state.
