KEPALA BATAS: A total of 202 households affected by the recent floods in Penang received RM1,500 in cash aid on Tuesday (Sept 24).

The cash aid was given to all families registered in the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) during the flood that hit Penang last week.

Prime Minister’s senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin handed over the aid in a ceremony at Dewan Besar Sungai Dua.

Shamsul said the cash aid, RM500 from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and RM1,000 from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), is crucial for those affected by calamities such as floods or other natural disasters in Malaysia.

“This shows that the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and the Unity Government are very concerned and affected by the situation of those tested by this flood disaster.

“Hopefully, this allocation will help lighten their burden in repairing what was damaged after the flood incident,” he said during his speech at the ceremony.

Shamsul also thanked security agencies such as the Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department, police and armed forces who were involved in helping and assisting flood victims during the period.

Present during the ceremony were state social development, welfare and non-Islamic affairs committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, Central Seberang Perai district officer Datuk Kamarul Haizal Koderat, North Seberang Perai district officer Rosmin Yaakob and South Seberang Perai district officer Khairulnizam Hashim.

Beginning Sept 17, Penang was hit by floods, with 11 PPS opened across the three districts involving 760 victims from 202 families.
