IPOH: The announcement of new water tariff rates for Perak will be delayed until after Hari Raya Aidilfitri, according to Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, the Perak Mentri Besar. The decision to postpone the announcement was made to allow the people to fully enjoy the festive season. Saarani emphasized that the new rates are not overly burdensome, but they want to avoid causing unnecessary worry among the public.
Speaking to the media at the launch of the “Riang Ria Raya” programme by the state Agriculture Department at the Seri Perak Darul Ridzuan field, Saarani explained the rationale behind the delay in announcing the new rates. The decision was intended to ensure that people could celebrate Hari Raya without any added concerns.
Last week, Saarani mentioned that the finalization of new water tariffs for domestic use in the state was pending, as the matter had not yet been discussed in the state executive council meeting. In February, Saarani had initially targeted March for the announcement of the tariffs. He had also highlighted that the state Water Board had scheduled a meeting on March 1 for a briefing on the new rates.
According to Saarani, the last adjustment to water tariffs in Perak occurred back in 2006. The delay in announcing the new rates is aimed at ensuring that the public can fully embrace the festivities of Hari Raya without any additional concerns about potential rate changes.
