NIBONG TEBAL: Perikatan Nasional will use various methods and media, including social media, during the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election campaign.
“We’ll redouble our efforts,” Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who is Perikatan’s election director for the by-election, after launching the coalition’s election machinery in Sungai Bakap on Saturday (June 8).
The Kedah Mentri Besar said the coalition would try to explain its mission and vision to the people.
Muhammad Sanusi said social media would remain one of Perikatan’s campaigning methods, alongside other strategies.
He said besides social media, the party election machinery would use contemporary media, traditional media, and ceramah events.
“We will also go from house to house and use all possible channels that we have,” he said.
Earlier, during his speech, Muhammad Sanusi offered to sell water from the Lubuk Buntar water treatment plant (WTP).
“I want to announce tonight (June 8), Chow Kon Teow, if Nibong Tebal doesn’t have water, we have surplus clean water at Lubuk Buntar.
“I am willing to sell water, but I won’t give it free like Sungai Muda,” he said.
He said Sungai Muda supplies Penang with a generous amount of water, approximately 1,440 million litres per day (MLD), whereas Kedah only utilises about 770 MLD, which was half of what Penang consumes.
He said this stark difference raises questions about why Penang, especially in Sungai Bakap, faces water shortages.
“Despite having access to double the amount of water, Penang still struggles to meet its water demands for the people in Sungai Bakap,” he said.
He said this in relation to the water shortage problem that has affected the Sungai Bakap constituency for the past six years.
He added that if Penang could reap profits from selling water to others, Kedah wanted to take profits too.
Lubuk Buntar WTP is located in the border township of Bandar Baharu, just 16km from the Kedah-Penang state border.
