Peru’s foreign minister, Ana Cecilia Gervasi, has resigned from her position after less than a year, following criticism of President Dina Boluarte’s recent trip to the United States, as per a credible source.
According to her resignation letter, which Reuters has obtained, Gervasi stated that she had fulfilled the responsibilities assigned to her since December 2022, after former President Pedro Castillo’s arrest for attempting to dissolve Congress.
Gervasi did not directly mention Boluarte’s visit to the U.S., but local media outlets reported that she faced pressure due to her unsuccessful efforts to arrange a formal meeting between Boluarte and President Joe Biden.
Boluarte’s time in office has been marked by significant challenges, including social protests and a weakening economy.
