In the upcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday (March 18), several important matters related to education and national security will be discussed. One of the key topics to be raised is the government’s proposal to shift the start of the school academic calendar back to January. Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki of PN-Parit Buntar will be seeking clarification from the Education Minister on this issue during the Questions for Oral Answers session.
Another topic of concern is the control over the syllabus of subjects in schools. Hassan Saad of PN-Baling will be questioning the Education Minister about the government’s plan to conduct research and impose control over subjects that disrupt academic learning, impacting teachers’ planning.
Datuk Henry Sum Agong of GPS-Lawas will also have a question for the Home Minister regarding the start of operations at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) complex at the border of Ba’ Kelalan, Lawas, and Krayan, Indonesia.
In addition, Vivian Wong Shir Yee of PH-Sandakan will be inquiring about the Finance Ministry’s strategy for implementing a targeted subsidy scheme to ensure that government subsidies are not wrongly diverted to neighboring countries.
Following the question and answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will proceed with the first reading of the Police (Amendment) Bill 2024. Other bills up for discussion include the Universities and University Colleges (Amendment) Bill 2023, the Jurisdictional Immunities of Foreign States Bill 2023, and the Supplementary Supply (2023) Bill 2024, which are scheduled for their second reading.
