PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a visit from Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who is in Malaysia for a two-day official visit.
During their meeting in Penang, Anwar and Fidan discussed the longstanding bilateral cooperation between their countries.
“We also talked about various regional and international issues of mutual interest, including those involving Muslims.”
“May the relationship between Malaysia and Turkiye continue to grow and benefit the people,” Anwar said on Facebook.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir was also present at the meeting.
Fidan’s visit marks his first trip to Malaysia since becoming Turkiye’s Foreign Minister on June 3.
Turkiye is Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner, largest export destination, and sixth-largest import destination from the West Asian region.
In 2022, Malaysia’s total trade with Turkiye increased by 12.6% to RM20.25bil (US$4.62bil) from RM17bil (US$4.10bil) in 2021.
