TANAH MERAH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave a personal contribution to Siti Zulaikha Anuar who is facing financial problems to enrol after being offered to study at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) this Friday (Sept 27).
Tanah Merah MyMADANI chairman Wan Ibrahim Wan Yusoff, who is representing Anwar, said the personal contribution was given after Siti Zulaikha sent a letter of assistance to the Prime Minister through a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
He said the personal contribution was to help Siti Zulaikha get ready to further her studies at IIUM after being offered to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Guidance and Counseling).
“This contribution is a caring contribution from the Prime Minister, especially for the education purposes of those from the underprivileged group.
“We received a letter from the student in August and the Prime Minister yesterday instructed me to hand over the contribution and resolve the problems faced by the student,” he told reporters after presenting the contribution at the student’s residence in Kampung Bukit Gading here on Wednesday (Sept 25).
Wan Ibrahim said that Siti Zulaikha was extremely lucky to get the contribution directly from the nation’s top leader and hoped that it would ease her family’s burden as she gets ready to register at IIUM.
Meanwhile, the 20-year-old Siti Zulaikha said she never expected a personal contribution from the Prime Minister when she sent the letter on Aug 29.
She said the idea was mooted by an NGO member.
“I am shocked to receive this contribution and am thankful to the Prime Minister,” said Siti Zulaikha, who is the ninth of 12 siblings.
Siti Zulaikha, who studied at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tanah Merah 2, obtained outstanding results in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination last year.
Her parents, who do not have a fixed income, rely on her other siblings and the monthly aid from the Social Welfare Department.- Bernama
