KEPALA BATAS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that there should not be any bureaucratic obstacles in implementing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs.
“Companies willing to partially or fully train students are welcome,” he said during a community discussion on TVET at Bertam Square.
The three-day TVET expo organized by the Rural and Regional Development Ministry will end on Sunday, which includes this event.
The main objective is to ensure that fresh TVET graduates earn between RM2,500 and RM3,000.
Anwar acknowledged that although the current salary range for these graduates is above RM1,500, it is still insufficient.
“Training at the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) aims to increase their pay to RM2,500 and RM3,000,” he added.
He praised the PSDC for its efforts in providing training and employment opportunities.
In terms of pay, companies like PETRONAS offer higher salaries to TVET graduates.
“TVET is now highly regarded and on par with academic education,” he emphasized, mentioning that this shift from conventional education is crucial due to the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0).
Anwar addressed inquiries from the event attendees regarding TVET’s progress.
He emphasized the need to train more lecturers for TVET programs.
“We are collaborating with Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) to develop specialized training programs,” he explained.
In response to a parent’s question about the viability of pursuing TVET after SPM, Anwar expressed that there is growing interest in TVET due to the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and technological advancements.
“If we enhance the training quality and increase the minimum pay for graduates, more students will show interest,” he assured.
“In this industry, students receive training, certifications, and job placements,” Anwar concluded.
