During a briefing session on Sunday (Feb 25) at the Seri Perdana Complex in Putrajaya, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, along with unity government MPs, prepared for the upcoming Dewan Rakyat sitting on Monday (Feb 26).
The three-hour session, which began at 9.30 am, was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as well as members of the Cabinet.
During the briefing, Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi highlighted the Prime Minister’s emphasis on the necessity for MPs to be present at the Dewan Rakyat sitting and to conduct ethical debates.
He stated, “The Prime Minister stressed the importance of attendance, the need for debates to be constructive and backed by evidence. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Legal and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said also provided insights on handling questions and Bills.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of maintaining quorum in the Dewan Rakyat,” Linggi added.
On Monday, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, will deliver the inaugural royal address in Parliament for the opening of the First Meeting of the Third Session of the 15th Parliament.
According to the Parliament’s official website, this sitting will span 19 days, focusing primarily on the debate on the royal address by MPs from Feb 27 to March 7, followed by four days for relevant ministries to conclude discussions starting March 11. – Bernama
Furthermore, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted that the Prime Minister urged MPs to continue their role as checks and balances during the Dewan Rakyat session.
“Anwar emphasized the importance of addressing issues of public interest, as well as problems and concerns within their constituencies,” Nasution mentioned in a statement following the briefing.
MPs were also encouraged to participate in parliamentary debates with thorough preparation. – Bernama
