WARSAW (Reuters) – Poland announced on Saturday the commencement of a maintenance hub for tanks damaged in Ukraine during the conflict with Russia. The hub is located in the southern city of Gliwice.
Poland has been a significant ally of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy since Russia’s invasion last year. The country had been in negotiations with Germany to establish a joint workshop for Leopard tanks. However, no official statement regarding a shared position has been made.
Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak took to Twitter to announce the operation of the maintenance hub in Gliwice, stating, “The maintenance hub in Gliwice has started operating! The first two Leopards have already arrived from Ukraine to the Bumar plant.”
It remains unclear if this hub is the anticipated joint initiative with Germany.
