IPOH: Four men have been arrested by the police for allegedly obstructing public servants from performing their duties during an integrated operation at the Silver Valley Technology Park project site in Kanthan Baru, Chemor on Tuesday (Oct 24).
The arrests were made by the Ipoh District Police chief ACP Yahaya Hassan, who stated that the individuals taken into custody were aged between 30 and 68.
According to ACP Yahaya, the police had noticed several viral videos on social media that portrayed incidents occurring during the enforcement of Section 425 of the National Land Code 1965 at the mentioned project site, which had garnered public attention.
“This integrated operation, which was led by the State Land and Mines Office (PTG) and involved various state government agencies and statutory bodies, witnessed the Ipoh district police maintaining security throughout,” he expressed.
ACP Yahaya further explained that during the operation at 2.30 pm, a group comprising farmers and members of a political party prevented PTG officers from executing Section 425 of the National Land Code 1965, leading to the apprehension of the four men.
The Ipoh District Police chief also revealed that a police report had been filed concerning the arrests, and all suspects were being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which pertains to obstructing public servants from performing their responsibilities.
He added that after the investigation process was concluded, all the suspects were released on police bail.
Moreover, ACP Yahaya mentioned that they had received a police report from PTG regarding a woman suspected to be affiliated with the political party, who had hindered PTG vehicles during their operation at the site, noting that this case is also being scrutinized under the same section.
“The integrated operation was executed successfully, and the farmers and political party members present in the operation area dispersed peacefully at around 2.45 pm,” he concluded. – Bernama
