The Pos Pasik Orang Asli community in Kampung Tendrik, Pos Bihai is living in fear as a tiger reportedly roams around their village. This fear has been heightened after a pet dog’s carcass was found with scratches believed to have been inflicted by the tiger. Apek Asud, an Orang Asli from the Temiar tribe, heard a dog barking near his house at 4am on Sunday. However, he was too scared to investigate further. The next morning, he discovered the dog’s carcass with animal scratch marks, confirming his belief that the tiger had mauled it. The residents are now on high alert after footprints, believed to be from the tiger, were discovered.
Mohd Sani Nahtiman, the chairman of the Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee, believes that the tiger is still roaming in the area near the village. He warns the residents to remain vigilant and travel in groups if necessary. This fear is not unfounded as a resident, Pisie Amud, was found dead in the Pos Pasik forest area on October 4. His left leg was missing, leading authorities to believe that he was attacked by the tiger.
The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) has been called to solve this problem as soon as possible. The tiger responsible for the earlier attack has not been caught, and its footprints were still visible in the area just last Friday.
