PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has expressed concern that the transition from open cage system to closed house system will have a significant impact on poultry farmers, particularly those from small and medium-sized farms. This change may also discourage younger generations from entering the poultry farming industry, which could have detrimental effects on its future, according to the MCA president’s Facebook post on Friday (Jan 19).
Dr Wee, along with MCA vice-president and Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, met with poultry farmers to discuss the implications of the switch. In his statement, Dr Wee highlighted the need for a comprehensive plan by the government to provide assistance to farmers in order to mitigate potential disruptions in the food chain. He also announced plans to address this issue with the relevant authorities, including in Parliament.
