PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye has urged people to be mindful of food wastage during Chinese New Year celebrations.
The chairman of the Alliance for a Safe Community reminded everyone to eat in moderation when gathering with relatives and friends at open houses during the festivities.
He emphasized the importance of not taking more food than one can eat, both for health reasons and to avoid wastage.
While it can be tempting to try all the dishes offered during the holidays, Lee Lam Thye cautioned that doing so might lead to unnecessary food wastage.
He also suggested that hosts should pack the leftovers for their guests to take home, rather than throwing them away.
Lee Lam Thye recommended that guests bring home the leftovers so they can continue to enjoy the dishes at home.
He stressed the need to consider sustainability when hosting or attending an event in order to minimize waste and its impact on the environment.
