KUALA LUMPUR: The Prisons Department refuted recent rumors circulating on social media claiming that Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was involved in the tender for the supply of prison clothes.
In a statement issued today (Aug 15), the department clarified that all procurement for services and goods are carried out through the eProcurement System. This system ensures transparency in the implementation of government tenders.
The department asserted, “The tender is also subject to financial regulations and the companies brought forward for consideration by the Home Ministry’s Procurement Board have gone through evaluations by the Tender Opening Committee, Technical Evaluation Committee, and Financial Evaluation Committee.”
Furthermore, the statement mentioned that the procurement board convened on July 10 to determine the winner of the tender.
The Prisons Department emphasized, “Therefore, there has been no delay in this tender process.”
The spread of these false claims on social media has led to unnecessary speculation and misinformation. It is crucial to rely on official statements and verified sources before drawing any conclusions.
The Prison Department encourages the public to remain vigilant about the information they consume and to refrain from sharing unverified news that can cause harm or confusion to others.
By adhering to proper channels of information and verifying the accuracy of the news, we can prevent the spread of baseless rumors and ensure a more informed society.
