JOHOR BARU: The public is urged to remain calm and not be alarmed following the emergency simulation exercise that is currently held by the Johor Police Contingent at all police stations statewide.
Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said the simulation would be conducted from July 2 to August 5.
“This exercise is being carried out in accordance with the permanent order of the Inspector-General of Police (PTKPN A124), involving the Johor Police Headquarters and all police stations under the district police headquarters throughout the state.
“The purpose of this simulation exercise is to enhance the effectiveness of the Royal Malaysia Police in Johor’s planning and actions in facing security threats and public order situations.
“It also aims to ensure that the officers and members of the police in Johor are always ready to handle crisis situations,” he said in a statement on Saturday (July 27).
Comm Kumar added that the public is advised not to panic or be influenced by rumours and videos of the exercise circulating on social media.
He added that the public is also advised not to spread false news about this exercise, as it could cause unnecessary concern and disrupt public order.
“We urge the public to remain calm and not be swayed by misinformation.
“This exercise is crucial for us to ensure our preparedness in the face of potential threats. Spreading false information can create unnecessary panic and disturb public peace,” he said.
He also shared that the exercise was conducted unexpectedly to test the police station’s readiness.
Earlier, a 13-second video was posted on Edisi Siasat Telegram showing a group of men “attacking” the gate of a police station in Pekan Nenas, Pontian.
At the time of writing, the video had gained more than 100,000 views.
